Chem 112-Today you will review VSEPR using straws and bubbles.
Please remember to return your review sheets with your textbooks on the day of the exam so you can get your bonus marks. Please don't forget to remember to do the exam in the following order that I suggested. It is a good idea to put work down for all questions as I cannot give part value for a blank answer. Good luck with the studying.

Chem 122-Please remember to return your review sheets with your textbooks on the day of the exam so you can get your bonus marks. Please don't forget to remember to do the exam in the following order that I suggested. Case Study...then multiple choice.....then problems from short and long response(middle part of exam)....save the problems that you do not know right away until the end of the exam. It is a good idea to put work down for all questions as I cannot give part value to a blank answer. Good luck with the studying.

Here is the assignment:
Scientists and more Scientists
Make a chart with the name of the scientists in chapter two and their main claim to fame.
Ex. Scientist Contribution
Dalton Billiard Ball Model
JJ Thompson Raison-bun model
Be sure to include all scientists from chapter two There are a few exceptions: There is no need to include Neil Bartlett, Ida Noddack or Murray Gell-Mann.

Chem 122-Today we overviewed the format of the midterm and the chapters covered by the midterm. We started ch 9 Organic chemistry. We went over naming alkanes(single bonded chains). I assigned p 291 1 to 4. The midterm is next tuesday, please begin the process of studying:)

Chem 111-Today we went over molar mass, mol<--> mass calculations....and went over the format of the midterm for friday. We continued on with the group assignment from yesterday. Please spend some time studying for your midterm.

April 7-Monday ......Time to start studying for Friday's midterm.....:)

Chem 112-We went over an overview of what will be on friday's midterm. We spent some time on isolated topics from ch 2 today. We reviewed isotopes and atomic mass and some ideas on the periodic table like group, period, the families. Most of what we did today can be found on p65 to 76. I assigned p 77 26 to 29. I also passed a handout of practise with mass number and isotopes, as well as periodic table terms. sheet 2 and 1 need to be completed for tomorrow. (I will scan this and attach it when I get home to my scanner tonight ...for the 5 of you who were absent today) Your major assignment was due today. I will give a short surprise quiz tomorrow on a few questions from this assignment. If you are reading this wiki site tonight it will just be a couple of questions directly from the assignment.

Chem 122 Today we did a test on ch 14. The labs will not start yet. I am still waiting on Mrs Savoie's class to finish. Hopefully labs can be started by wednesday.
Chem 111-Today we will go over an overview of what will be on friday's midterm. We spent some time on isolated topics from ch 2 today. Today we went over #42 and #44 from p 154-156. We then worked on a predicting assignment in pairs from p 156 Exercise 4B where we predicted the reaction products and wrote down the observations beneath the chemicals in the equation.

April 4-Friday

Chem 112- Today we will learn about the mole and go over the green pea analogy. You will get a worksheet with some more challenging balancing questions and some more mole calculations.
Chem 122-Today we will be doing problems in groups to help us start to prepare for monday's test on Ch 14
Chem 111-Today we will go over single and double replacement reactions and practise with questions from the textbook
p 154 42 all and p 155 44 a to k. We will also go over the green pea anaolgy.

April 3- Thursday

Parent Teacher interviews are this afternoon from 1:00 to 3:30 and next Thursday April 10 from 6:30 to 8:30.

April 2-Wednesday

Chem 112-A big reminder that the assignment is due on monday(+10% if passed in on friday).
We are going over single and double replacement reaction today and we are checking over several homework questions. p 154 42 all and p 155 44 a to k were assigned. The following scanned document can be used to check your answers from #42 and #44.
Answers to p 154 42 and 44

.

Chem 122-P2 Today we will finish the unit. We will go over Kb and a formula that relates everything. I will assign p 511 (all questions 34 to 40), p 514 31 to 33 and 35 will also be strongly recommended.

Chem 122 -P3 We will do our pH demo and finish the unit with a formula that relates everything. p 511 38, 39 and 40 will be assigned. p 514 31 to 33 and 35 will also be strongly recommended.
Chem 111- Do not forget to work on part 2 of your contract. Today I went over several demonstrations to show single and double replacement reactions.

April 1-Tuesday

Chem 112-A homework check was done on the work assigned by Miss Norman. We went over combustion reactions and using the solubility table. I assigned p 148 # 28 all and p 152 #36 a c e g etc. A demo was done.
Chem 122 P2- We did a homework check on yesterday's work. I went over Ka and using the table on p 611. A demo was done with the pH meter to show how pH of various substances can be used to calculate pOH, hydrogen ion concentration and hydroxide concentration. I assigned p 508 #31, 32, 33
Chem 122 P3-We did a homework check on yesterday's work. I went over Ka and using the table on p 611. I assigned p 508 #31, 32 and 33. We then went on to new work( no one brought in samples for pH ;(
We went over the Kb formula and then worked on p 511 37, 36, 35, 34.
Chem 111- We worked on more reaction types. Decomposition and combustion reactions were overviewed. I assigned p 146 24 a, b, d and 25 b,d,f as well as p 148 #28 all. I also overviewed molar mass.

Mar 31-Monday

Chem 112-Today we finished balancing equations and I assigned p 141 #14 to 18. Please make sure that the bottom right side of the handout from last week is finished(sheet #4 All). It has several practise questions on balancing equations. I will be doing a "Mega" homework check on the supply teacher work from wed to thursday of last week.
Chem 122-Today we went over #23, 24, and 25 on p 501. Our new topic was percent ionization. The following questions were assigned: p 508 #28, 29 and 30. I also assigned the top left side of the reverse side of the handout on LeChatelier's Principle. (all of #1,2 and 3).
Chem 111-Today we finished balancing equations and I assigned p 141 #14 to 18. Please make sure the bottom right side of the hanout from last week is finished(sheet#4 all). I also did a big homework check on the work you did with Miss Norman last week.
